The famous 1971 film Willy Wonka captured a cultural attitude with the words, “I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket, it’s my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now.” Over a decade later, the rock group Queen sang “I want it all, and I want it now!” We’ve always been looking for a quick and easy solution to the problems we face. We take a pill, get a drink, inhale, go into debt, find someone else, get a different job, find a new church — we think these things will help us, but instead they leave us empty.
